how-to: London flatshare accommodation

Obviously this depends on the sort of accommodation you're after, but if you're like most antipodeans you're probably after sharehouse/flatshare accommodation.

Where to look?

By far the easiest place to find flatshare accommodation would have to be Gumtree, basically a website dedicated to classifieds, but with a fantastically large selection of flatshare accommodation.

Here are a couple other websites dedicated to the flat finding market (although i've not had any success with them).

How long did it take to find a place?

I allocated about two weeks to find a place in London, obviously it depends on your standards (of which mine are quite high), If you don't have friends to doss with, then stay in a hostel. When I moved over I alternated between wake-up in Paddington, great Location next to Paddington station, and a mates place in south London, this allowed me to scour both north and south London for a place to live. It ended up taking me about 8 days to find the place I still call home.

A quick tip while house hunting, If you happen to be looking at a room and a competitor comes in, you should chat with them, find out where they've been and where they're going. Flat hunting is a lonely game and it's sometimes great to team up with people, what may work for you may not for another person. Numerous times during my flat hunting stint, I'd just find one place to look at that night, and then just go around with other flat hunters.
